In this workshop we will focus on providing you with a broad understanding of financial management principles and practices covering financial governance and control; budgeting, forecasting and reporting; management accounting and management information; and important links with objective setting, business planning and risk management. The workshop will be interactive with time for open discussion and sharing of experiences
Learning Outcomes
- Gain a broad understanding of key financial principles and what good financial management looks like covering accounting, budgeting, forecasting and reporting
- Gain a broad understanding of the importance of financial governance and control, and what can happen when standards are not adhered to
- Gain a broad understanding of the use of management accounting and costing techniques, and linking to business information and performance
- Gain a better understanding of the business planning process/cycle and the interrelationship between finance and business planning, and risk management.

- Effective and proportionate governance and control, and what can go wrong
- Exploring the role and purpose of business planning and the links with effective budget management
- Why financial planning needs to be a continuous process that flows with strategic direction, business planning and decision-making
- Using financial information to inform strategic and local decisions
- Engagement in the commissioning and financial cycles
- Aspects of effective risk management
